We specialize in leagues that give you and your friends a great night out and, if you’re feeling competitive, a chance to destroy each other’s scores. A bowling league is a recurring event where teams compete weekly over a season. Teams usually have 3–5 players, and leagues offer a great mix of fun, friendly competition, and skill development.
Chipper’s offers two main types of leagues:
Shoe rental is included for all leagues, and all league bowlers receive discounts on food, drinks, and open bowling.

Handicap is a scoring adjustment used to equalize competition and makes league bowling competitive for everyone, regardless of skill level. It gives bowlers with lower averages a better chance to compete against higher-average bowlers.
Why It Matters:
Think of it like playing baseball against the Yankees — with handicap, you don’t have to hit home runs every frame to stand a chance. It’s what allows a 140-average bowler to compete on fair footing with someone who averages 210.
How It Works:
Most leagues use a percentage of the difference between a bowler’s average and a base score (often 200 or 220). For example, a league using 90% of 220 would give a 150-average bowler a handicap of 63 pins per game.
Handicap isn’t about giving anyone a “free ride.” It rewards consistency and improvement, while still allowing less experienced bowlers to feel competitive and have fun.

Yes! All league bowlers at Chipper’s receive:
Bowling shoes are included for league bowlers. You can use one of our bowling balls or bring your own. Optional gear: wrist braces, towels, grip aids, etc.

League bowling is fun, but also a team sport. Please:
Handicap: A scoring system that adjusts for skill levels, allowing newer bowlers to compete fairly.
Scratch: The actual pinfall score, without any handicap.
Frame: One of ten turns in a game where a bowler gets up to two rolls.
Split: Two or more pins left standing with a gap between them.
Turkey: Three strikes in a row.
Open Frame: A frame without a strike or spare.
Anchor: The last bowler in a lineup, often in a pressure position.
Sanctioned League: A league recognized by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) with official rules and recordkeeping.
Non-Sanctioned League: Local league without USBC oversight; typically more relaxed and open to all.
Pre-Bowl: Bowling your league games in advance if you know you’ll miss a week.
